TSMC was forced to halt at least some of the production at Fab-14A P7 due to a power outage at the Southern Taiwan Science Park on Wednesday. DigiTimes reported that the outage was believed to have affected up to 40,000 wafers—but luckily for enthusiasts those wafers were produced using mature process nodes. Reuters reported Wednesday that the power outage started when an “underground power line was accidentally severed during construction work in the late morning.” TSMC was able to mitigate the outage’s impact by relying on backup generators, according to the report, and power was restored by 7pm on Wednesday evening. Fab 14A is primarily devoted to the 40, 45, 65, and 90nm process technologies. Those mature process nodes are mostly used by the automotive industry; modern consumer electronics use far smaller nodes. The power outage would have had a greater effect on consumers if it affected TSMC’s output of 5, 7, or 10nm chips. The loss of these wafers could still cost … [Read more...] about Power Outage Prompts TSMC to Halt Production of Mature Process Nodes

PowerColor’s ‘Ultimate’ Red Devil & Liquid Devil RX 6900 XT Get Cherry Picked GPUs
PowerColor has unveiled Ultimate editions of its top-of-the-range Red Devil Radeon RX 6900 XT and Liquid Devil Radeon RX 6900 XT graphics cards with hand-selected GPUs that guarantee a great overclocking potential. The new Red Devil Radeon RX 6900 XT Ultimate and Liquid Devil Radeon RX 6900 XT Ultimate use exactly the same custom PCB design with a 14+2-phase voltage regulating module (VRM) as well as three eight-pin auxiliary power connectors and cooling systems as their regular versions introduced earlier this year . Their key difference of the Ultimate boards from their predecessors is frequency of the Navi 21 XTX GPU (5120 stream processors, 320 TUs, 128 ROPs, 80 RT units). The Red Devil RX 6900 XT Ultimate can boost its Navi 21 GPU to 2425 MHz, whereas the Liquid Devil RX 6900 XT Ultimate can boost its graphics processor to 2525 MHz. To put the numbers into context, AMD's reference Radeon RX 6900 XT does not go higher than 2250 MHz. PowerColor's Red Devil Radeon RX … [Read more...] about PowerColor’s ‘Ultimate’ Red Devil & Liquid Devil RX 6900 XT Get Cherry Picked GPUs
DJI Air 2S Review: Superb results without the work
DJI Air 2S Score Details DT Editors' Choice “When quality and performance are priority, you won't find anything better than the DJI Air 2S.” Captures sharp images Strong details from its 5.4K video Pro level clips with Mastershots Fun and safe to fly Camera can sometimes hunt for focus MSRP $999.00 One leisurely activity that kept me sane during the lockdown last year was flying the DJI Mavic Air 2 . It had everything you’d want in a drone, whether you were a first-time flyer or a seasoned pilot. Now, though, it looks like DJI is taking a page out of Apple’s playbook by releasing an upgraded version of its drone a year after its release. I had very few qualms about the Mavic Air 2 when I tested it out last year, it was just about perfect in every way . Enter the DJI Air 2S, a slightly beefed-up version that’s most notable for the upgraded camera sensor it’s packing along for the ride, which clearly puts it very close to … [Read more...] about DJI Air 2S Review: Superb results without the work
ZTE’s new Axon 30 Ultra takes normal, wide, and zoom photos all at the same time
ZTE has launched the Axon 30 Ultra 5G smartphone, which it indicates removes any indecision out of which camera to use when taking a photo, as it has a “take photos first and zoom later” feature. The company says the phone will take full-focus long, medium, and close-up photos with one tap of the shutter button, unlike most other smartphone cameras which require you to take each photo separately. The advantage, presumably, is in editing. You can zoom in and out of the photo to find exactly the right look for you, without sacrificing quality. It’s a little bit like Portrait modes where you can alter the focal point after you’ve taken the shot. It’ll be interesting to see how the software performs, and whether the feature is useful or not. The Axon 30 Ultra does this with three 64-megapixel main cameras and an 8MP telephoto camera. We know the main 64MP camera is a Sony IMX686 sensor with optical image stabilization and an f/1.6 aperture, but we don’t know the sensor used for the … [Read more...] about ZTE’s new Axon 30 Ultra takes normal, wide, and zoom photos all at the same time
