Among Nintendo fans, there has been dispute as to whether Mario was telling Yoshi to get something or smacking the character in the head. According to Nintendo, Mario was originally punching Yoshi, causing the character’s tongue to shoot out in surprise. For example, a few years back website Supper Mario Broth tried to disprove the Mario-is-punching-Yoshi theory with the images below, explaining that “Yoshi contorts his face before Mario’s hand overlaps his head” and that “official art suggests Mario is simply pointing forward to show Yoshi what to lick.” In a recent interview on Nintendo’s official site, longtime developers Takashi Tezuka and Shigefumi Hino talked about the creation of Super Mario World and Yoshi. According to Tezuka, Shigeru Miyamoto said he wanted Mario to ride a horse. “I think he likes horses,” Tezuka added. “When we were making [Super Mario Bros. 3], he drew a picture of Mario riding a horse and had … [Read more...] about Confirmed: Mario Was Originally Punching Yoshi
The first trailer for the upcoming Captain Marvel excited the internet for plenty of reasons. It has the talented Brie Larson doing superhero stuff; it shows a beloved comic book character adapted for the big screen; it finally gives a woman a starring role in one of the bazillion Marvel movies dominated by dudes—and, perhaps most importantly of all, it features a quick clip of an old lady getting punched in the face. While some are busy wringing their hands over the character’s willingness to bruise the probable grandma’s wrinkled, eerily soft, and lavender-scented cheeks, the rest of the internet is enjoying the hilariously context-free brutality another way: by meming the living hell out of it. There are entries from the classic realm of “self-loathing” Twitter ... ... and others from the underappreciated subgenre of meme-makers over at “student Twitter.” Other jokes focus on everything from Marvel versus DC rivalry to inevitable cracks … [Read more...] about Get used to seeing Captain Marvel punching the shit out of that old lady
NHL opening night is less than two weeks away, and it’s safe to assume the Canadiens, mired in mediocrity and dysfunction, feel like they have a lot to prove. They’re also not going to be very good at hockey, which is often a recipe for a team eager to scrap. Yes, even in preseason. “It was pretty intense for a preseason game,” Habs forward Paul Byron said of Wednesday’s game against Florida that saw each team take nine penalties. “I don’t know if they were ready for it, but we’ve been ready. Even in the Red and White game, there were bigger hits than normal. Guys are fighting for jobs and we have a lot of guys in our lineup tonight who were trying to showcase themselves.” The game featured one real fight, with Byron, coming off shoulder surgery, dropping the gloves with Jonathan Huberdeau: And then there was this, under a minute in to the third period. Max Domi was acquired this summer from Arizona in a trade for Alex … [Read more...] about Max Domi Sucker-Punched Aaron Ekblad

You read that right. A Charlottesville, Va. jury did agree with a judge’s ruling that a local man was guilty of assault and battery after punching Unite the Right organizer Jason Kessler in the head. That same jury also recommended that the man in question, 50-year-old Jeffrey Matthew Winder, serve zero jail time and shell out a whopping $1 fine for the misdemeanor conviction. Ah, all is right in the world and black Jesus’ baby angels are singing. As NBC29 notes, the incident started back on Aug. 13, 2017, when Kessler called a press conference one day after his violent white supremacist rally ended with one person, Heather Heyer, being killed after a man drove his vehicle into a group of people counter-protesting. Several others were injured. As Kessler began to speak, the crowd began chanting “Say her name,” of course, referring to Heyer. The crowd swarmed the sentient tub of pure mayo, causing him to flee and at some point, Winder punched him in the back of … [Read more...] about Man Convicted of Punching ‘Unite the Right’s’ Jason Kessler Ordered to Pay a Whopping $1 Fine
