The Shining Hotel Plans to Become Horror Museum | Digital Trends

October 28, 2015 by www.digitaltrends.com

The Shining and, in turn, the book’s film adaptation, Colorado’s Stanley Hotel is embracing its image as a horror landmark. The hotel recently shared plans to create the Stanley Film Center, which would be a ground-breaking horror museum, complete with a film archive and film production studio. The hotel already has a long history of Shining fans wanting to sleep under the same roof where much of the 1980 thriller starring Jack Nicholson was filmed, but the new project would go far beyond that. Designed by MOA Architecture, the film center would feature a 500-seat auditorium, a 3,000 sq. ft soundstage, classrooms, workshop spaces, and post-production and editing suites. There would also be a 30,000 sq. ft. interactive museum and discovery center, where visitors would view rotating exhibits. With so many exciting draws, it’s estimated that hotel visitors could number in the hundreds of thousands each year. The film center, however, is not yet a sure thing. This $500 Million Home Could Be the U.S.’s Most Expensive | Digital Trends

June 13, 2015 by www.digitaltrends.com

Previous Next 1 of 5 Nile Niami (he’s responsible for The Patriot — the Steven Seagal one, not the Mel Gibson one) is developing the property, which he plans to sell for $500 million. It will include three smaller residences, in addition to the 74,000-square-foot main house. (And we thought that 24,000-square-foot, 3D-printed house was crazy.) “The house will have almost every amenity available in the world,” he told Bloomberg Business , including a 5,000-square-foot master bedroom, an Imax-style theater, and four swimming pools. The garage will have room for 30 cars, and the property will feature an 8,500-square-foot nightclub. The buildings will sit upon four acres of hilltop, offering views of the Pacific Ocean. With California’s drought on, the 20,000 square feet of grass could be synthetic, Niami said. Architect Paul McClean tells Bloomberg that the house’s main focus is luxury and not conservation, though: “I can’t tell you … [Read more...] about This $500 Million Home Could Be the U.S.’s Most Expensive | Digital Trends

When Erika Alexander ( Living Single , John Lewis: Good Trouble ) and Whitney Dow ( Two Towns of Jasper , Whiteness Project ) first set out to creat a prjct about reparations, they expected to make a thesis film about the debate surrounding H.R. 40, a 30-year-old Congressional bill that would establish a commission to study slavery and consider reparations for Black Americans . Plans shifted upon meeting Alderman Robin Rue Simmons and learning of her pursuit to pass the first government-funded reparations program in Evanston, Illinois. The result became The Big Payback , a documentary that follows Simmons’s efforts in Evanston and the fight to pass H.R. 40. Featuring interviews with Simmons, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas), and other community leaders, The Big Payback is a view into the legislation behind reparations and how it affects communities on a local and national level.
