The screen has a fingerprint sensor set underneath, and it’s slow, unreliable, and frustrating. It often takes several tries for it to recognize your finger and then a second or so to unlock the device, or worse, a second or two to actually activate the sensor in the first place. This means you tap the screen and press the power button, all in the hope of it waking up, only to make things worse when the software gets in a tizzy. Using face unlock as an alternative compromises security, and really isn’t much faster, either. Security on the Edge is a disappointment. … [Read more...] about Motorola Edge review: Stunning display, good price

The same held true in our more real-world Handbrake test that converts a 420MB file to H.265. Here, the Inspiron took just over 4.6 minutes to complete the test compared to the Spin 3 at just over four minutes, meaning that the Inspiron fell behind even its most direct competitor. The Flex 5 14 took just 2.7 minutes and the Swift 3 finished in 2.5 minutes, demonstrating just how much faster the AMD processors are in demanding tasks. … [Read more...] about Dell Inspiron 14 5000 review: Too cheap for its own good?

For music, I found this bar to be stellar. Polk is a company that made its name in audio first after all, unlike the bigger brands like Vizio, Samsung, and LG. The company has a history of making music-friendly speakers, so it came as no surprise to me that the bar is capable of delightfully clear reproduction of tracks like Mumford & Sons’ Lover of the Light. As far as bass is concerned, the S3’s compact woofer handled short, punchy low notes effectively. But when asked to reach lower, or when the bass was increased via the bar’s remote, the sub succumbed to the limitations of its size and unfortunately sounded like it was stretching for a frequency it just couldn’t quite reach. If you don’t ask too much of it, you’ll be happy with this subwoofer — you just must be cognizant of what it can and can’t do. … [Read more...] about Polk Audio Signa S3 review: A good bar lost among great competition
Like many Yogas today, the aesthetic is fairly conservative. It’s a gunmetal gray color with zero bling; you won’t find a stitch of chrome on the laptop, other than a small patch that surrounds the logo. It won’t stand out in a crowd, especially not compared to laptops like HP’s gem-cut Spectre x360 13, which screams “look at me!” Compared to the $650 Acer Swift 3 with its typical silver chassis, though, the Yoga C640 strikes me as having a more elegant and modern design. The same is true when it’s compared to the $560 HP Pavilion x360, which isn’t as refined and trim as the Yoga C640. … [Read more...] about Lenovo Yoga C640 review: The ultimate laptop for students?
