After the nuclear holocaust, they say, all that will be left are cockroaches and Cher. I actually don’t know if they say that, but I did hear Cher once saying on television that they say that. So at the very least, Cher says that. But what would Cher say about the child sometimes known as Honey Boo Boo joining her and her buggy brethren? It could happen. The child (real name: Alana Thompson) has now been a key feature of no fewer than three reality shows over the past seven years, including the current one that her family landed on WEtv after what once looked like a career-destroying reunion between Thompson’s mother June Shannon and the ex-boyfriend who went to prison for molesting her daughter. Reportedly, Thompson is joining another. The Blast reports that Thompson will compete on the forthcoming Dancing with the Stars season featuring kids, which they’re calling Dancing With the Stars Junior. ABC has confirmed neither the casting nor the angle of the upcoming … [Read more...] about It Looks Like Honey Boo Boo’s 15 Minutes Have Been Renewed Yet Again
Public health experts have been warning people since June to stay away from Kellogg’s Honey Smacks cereal, as it can possibly give you a nasty case of salmonella poisoning. But people are still eating the frog-branded cereal, and they are unfortunately getting sick. On Monday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its tally of victims believed to be sickened by the outbreak so far. As of August 30, at least 130 people from 36 states have been infected with the same strain of Salmonella Mbandaka since March 3. No deaths in connection to the outbreak have been reported, though 34 people have been hospitalized. The CDC and other federal health agencies announced their investigation of the outbreak on June 14; that same day, Kellogg’s recalled all of its Honey Smacks cereals. But cases have continued to trickle in since then. Between July 12 and this latest announcement, 30 more people were found to have fallen ill. And it’s possible more cases … [Read more...] about People Are Still Eating Recalled Honey Smacks Cereal—and They’re Getting Sick
The nightmare is not yet over for fans of Kellogg’s Honey Smacks sweetened puffed wheat cereal. Time reports today that while Kellogg’s announced a voluntary recall of the cereal in June, the situation has now worsened. The Centers the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention just announced “that at least 30 people from 19 states have become ill since mid-July, suggesting that contaminated products may still be in people’s homes or on store shelves.” Man, some people must really love those Honey Smacks, huh? Kellogg’s reports that it halted production on the cereal in June, so that any boxes still out there are old, and therefor potentially harmmful. Once again, we must heed the cries of the CDC, which advises, in so many words, just to throw the whole lot away: “Do not eat any Kellogg’s Honey Smacks cereal, regardless of the package size or best-by date. Check your home for it and throw it away or return it to the place of purchase … [Read more...] about CDC: Seriously, stop eating contaminated Honey Smacks cereal
FRIDAY, JULY 13 UPDATE: Almost a month after the CDC’s original announcement, the Centers For Disease Control notes that Honey Smacks remain on some grocery store shelves, even though “27 more ill people from 19 states were added to this outbreak since the last update on June 14, 2018.” Consequently, the CDC states in no uncertain terms: “CDC recommends people do not eat any Kellogg’s Honey Smacks cereal because it has been linked to a multistate outbreak of Salmonella infections.” Just in case that’s not clear enough, the bulletin continues, “Do not eat any Kellogg’s Honey Smacks cereal, regardless of package size or best-by date. Check your home for it and throw it away, or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.” Sorry, Dig’em fans. FRIDAY, JUNE 15: Recent salmonella and E. coli warnings have involved vegetables and fruits like romaine lettuce and cut melons—produce seems to be more vulnerable to … [Read more...] about CDC: Do not eat Kellogg’s Honey Smacks [UPDATED]
Drinkery Drinkery is The Takeout's celebration of beer, liquor, coffee, and other potent potables. Vodka, we’re told, is flavorless. It’s wheat, rice, potatoes, corn, rye, sorghum, or any number of other plant rich in starch or sugar, which is distilled into alcohol. That alcohol is then distilled again—sometime the distillation total is three, sometimes five—and filtered. It’s there to be a base for the other ingredients in your cocktail, or to be chilled and thrown back quickly. A bad vodka burns, maybe even turns the stomach. A good vodka disappears. Barr Hill Vodka doesn’t disappear, and it’s one of the best damn spirits on my bar cart. When you look at the bottle, you’ll see a little bee on the label; you’ll also see the line, “distilled from raw honey.” This may lead you to believe this is a honey-flavored vodka, but it’s not. It’s made from honey. Just honey. “We’re not using any … [Read more...] about Wait, you can distill vodka from honey?
