Raspberry Pi Pico Uses 3D Printed Circuit In Mechanical Keypad

Making your own keyboard from scratch isn't usually this hands-on, but the results are totally worth it. This custom Raspberry Pi Pico keypad comes from a maker known on Reddit as Duzitbetter who decided to 3D print the circuit inside. Where other makers would design their own PCB, Duzitbetter decided to 3D print custom channels to route copper wires from the keys to the Pico. The keypad has a 3 x 3 layout to support 3D printed keys fitted with Gateron switches. According to Duzitbetter, the board, circuit, case and keycaps were designed just for this project and 3D-printed using a Prusa MK3S. The printed circuit board is essentially a series of grooves in which copper wires can be pressed into place. Image 1 of 2 Image 2 of 2 The end result is a 9-key Pico-powered keypad that can be easily programmed with custom macros. Adjusting each key function is as easy as editing a file on the Pico which connects via micro USB. How Mank used visual effects to turn back the clock on Hollywood

There’s something appropriate about David Fincher’s Mank premiering during one of the most unusual years Hollywood has experienced in several generations. The tale of eccentric, unpredictable screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz’s efforts to pen the screenplay for Citizen Kane , Mank is a throwback to American cinema’s golden age, meticulously filmed in black and white and set in and around pre-war Hollywood. In order to recreate the historic look and feel of the era (and the film itself), Fincher and co-producer Peter Mavromates , who also served as post-production supervisor and visual effects producer on the film, worked with several VFX studios to turn back the clock for Mankiewicz’s saga. Digital Trends spoke to Mavromates about his work on Mank , which is available now on Netflix and a contender for an Oscar nomination in the visual effects category , to find out how the film used VFX to create its cinematic time capsule. Digital Trends: Mank isn’t a … [Read more...] about How Mank used visual effects to turn back the clock on Hollywood

Watch astronaut Kate Rubins spacewalk 261 miles over South America

For regular folks in regular times, a Sunday outing might include a trip to the mall or the park. Kate Rubins, on the other hand, spacewalked 261 miles above Venezuela. The NASA astronaut was carrying out work on the exterior of the International Space Station (ISS) together with crewmate Victor Glover. The tasks included work on assembling and installing modification kits needed for upcoming solar array upgrades . NASA streamed all 7 hours and 4 minutes of the spacewalk — or extravehicular activity (EVA) as they’re known in the business — which ended at 1:16 p.m. ET on Sunday, February 28. With the ISS orbiting Earth about once every 90 minutes, it means the pair traveled around our planet nearly five times during their time outside the space-based laboratory. NASA posted some cool footage and images on the space station’s Twitter feed as the walk progressed, including this dramatic video clip showing Rubins outside the ISS as it passed over South America. As astronaut … [Read more...] about Watch astronaut Kate Rubins spacewalk 261 miles over South America

Watch DJI’s new teaser for its incoming FPV quadcopter

Despite various leaks already revealing a fair bit about DJI’s incoming first-person-view drone — one of them comprising an unboxing of what appears to be the new flying machine — the company is proceeding as if no one knows anything yet. A new video teaser, posted ahead of the drone’s big (or not so big) reveal at 9 a.m. ET on Tuesday, March 2, confirms earlier reports that the device will offer 4K/60 frames-per-second video recording. The teaser also includes a few seconds of action footage, which we’d like to believe was captured by the camera on DJI’s latest quadcopter. Watch it below. It landed online in mid-February on the Dominion Drones channel before being rapidly removed. However, before it disappeared, a number of … [Read more...] about Watch DJI’s new teaser for its incoming FPV quadcopter
