HP’s 27-inch Omen gaming monitor boasts a crisp and fluid display that’s clearly designed (and is especially great) for gaming. It delivers an impressive 1-millisecond response time and a 144Hz refresh rate that can be overclocked to 165Hz. Even if there’s a ton of action, you won’t miss a thing with this display and there aren’t any discernible issues. It’s also G-Sync enabled, which works with any computer equipped with an Nvidia graphics card with G-Sync capabilities to maintain a consistent refresh rate and prevent screen tearing. Plus, it has a number of available options for different settings like color, brightness, contrast, and response time, making it fairly customizable. All that, coupled with its sturdy design and subtle gaming look, might make it a good choice for your gaming display needs. But at a little less than $500 bucks, it’s definitely not an impulse buy. Let’s dig in deeper to see if it’s worth the price.Price … [Read more...] about HP Omen 27 Gaming Monitor review

A new app from a Latvian outfit called Sonarworks claims it can tune music to play perfectly through specific headphone models. So whether you’re using AirPods or a swanky pair of $900 Auduze LCD-2s, you’ll hear the same exact mix. Could the future of making music sound good be an app that compensates for the terrible headphones most of us insist on buying? For the last few weeks, I’ve been trying a beta version of Sonarworks’ True-Fi software on both Android and iOS. The apps are a mobile version of the headphone calibration software that’s existed for the desktop since earlier this year. After spending much of the year in closed beta, Sonarworks is now opening the mobile apps to an “early access” public beta, with the goal of a full release next year. A lifetime license for the desktop and mobile apps currently costs $79 (and will go up to $99 next year), but for the next few months during the early access period, the app will be totally … [Read more...] about Can This Little Magic App Make Your Headphones Sound Perfect?
There's a reason Dell is specifically targeting the finance industry with its new UltraSharp 49 curved monitor: it's a hard sell at $1,700 (roughly £1,290 or AU$2,400). Unlike Samsung's slightly less expensive (and lower resolution) C49HG90, the 49-inch U4919DW doesn't have the specs a gamer would -- or should -- pay the asking price for. While it offers a relatively high resolution at 5,120x1,440 pixels and Dell claims it's factory-calibrated with a 100 percent sRGB color gamut, its refresh rate maxes out at 60Hz with a pixel response time of 5ms in Fast mode. Even if you do have a graphics setup that can push that many pixels with any consistency (it falls a bit short of 4K), not a lot of games will scale properly to a 32:9 aspect ratio. Your pennies are probably better spent on a more gaming-optimized 34-inch display or with support for G-Sync HDR or FreeSync 2. That should still leave you plenty of leftover space to monitor your chat while streaming and money in … [Read more...] about Dell UltraSharp 49 is a big monitor matched by a big price
