Facebook Messenger finally tests default end-to-end encryption | Digital Trends
Meta has announced it will be testing default end-to-end encryption on Facebook Messenger . The social media company said in a press release on Thursday that testing has already begun “between some people” earlier this week, and that it will be working to make the privacy feature default for all messages and calls in 2023. If you’re part of the test group, your frequent chats will be automatically end-to-end encrypted, thereby rendering end-to-end encryption non-optional. This means that any conversation between you and a friend or family member can’t be accessed by Meta or anyone else. The only way Meta will see your messages is if you report them to the company if they threaten your safety in any way. Meta is also testing out secure storage on Android and iOS. This feature helps you back up your encrypted chats in the event your phone gets lost, or you want to restore your message history on a new device that supports end-to-end encryption. These encrypted backups can be … [Read more...] about Facebook Messenger finally tests default end-to-end encryption | Digital Trends
XMG Unveils New Ryzen 9 6900HX, RTX 3080 Ti Gaming Laptop
XMG has announced (opens in new tab) its latest high-end gaming laptops, the Neo 17 and 15, with two high-performance models built around Ryzen 9 CPUs, a choice of Nvidia GeForce GPUs, and an attractive external liquid cooling system. Looking good to trouble our roundup of the best gaming laptops , both 17-inch and 15-inch models come with AMD’s Ryzen 9 6900HX (eight cores, 16 threads, boost up to 4.9 GHz with a default TDP of 45W, peaking at 85W), and the 17-inch model packs a 330W PSU to make the most of both that CPU and an Nvidia Geforce RTX 3080 Ti GPU. Keeping a lid on all that heat is a cooling system comprising a pair of 11mm fans, five heat pipes, and heat sinks on all air outlets. An optional external liquid cooling system known as Oasis is also available, capable of dropping GPU temps in a stress test by 15 degrees Celsius, according to XMG’s figures. The Oasis looks somewhat like a PC itself, though how it connects to the laptop without spilling coolant all … [Read more...] about XMG Unveils New Ryzen 9 6900HX, RTX 3080 Ti Gaming Laptop
Intel Arc A380 Overclocks to 3.1 GHz, 55% Faster Than Stock
YouTuber ScatterBencher (opens in new tab) has shown off some GPU-Z screenshots teasing impressive graphics card overclocking work in progress. The OC expert, known by the handle MassMan on HWBot, has coaxed the lethargic Intel Arc A380 graphics card into a sprightly 3.1 GHz performer. That clock speed represents a 55% uplift compared to stock and far exceeds factory overclocked samples . The 3.1 GHz Intel Arc A380 tale raises quite a few questions. First, why overclock the Arc A380 to extremes? Probably just ‘because it is there,’ to coin a mountaineering phrase. The question of how is more involved, and we will have to take a few educated guesses, as ScatterBencher hasn’t divulged his technique for this feat. ScatterBencher shared his results on Twitter, and bemoaned his techniques taking “2 steps forward, 1 step back.” Tuning GPUs is full of compromises and balances. Every GPU model and every individual GPU sample will have its optimal settings, which require steps … [Read more...] about Intel Arc A380 Overclocks to 3.1 GHz, 55% Faster Than Stock
Intel Arc resurrects an old AMD and Nvidia feature | Digital Trends
Intel seems to be bringing back something that Nvidia and AMD had long given up on: the ability, and the incentive, to use dual graphics cards in a single system. Multi-GPUs were once a big deal, but the latest generation abandoned that idea for a variety of reasons. However, Intel has allegedly confirmed that you’ll be able to use multiple Intel Arc GPUs at once. Will that help Intel capture some of Nvidia’s and AMD’s customer base? Update: Intel reached out to us with a short clarification, saying: “Intel showed a Blender Cycles rendering demo at SIGGRAPH with Intel Arc graphics. Multi-GPU rendering support for Intel Arc and Intel Arc Pro graphics cards through oneAPI is supported starting in Blender 3.3. Intel Arc graphics does not support multi-GPU for gaming.” The original article follows below. A good few years have passed since some of us were yearning for a dual-GPU setup with one of Nvidia’s latest and greatest . Stacking Titan GPUs was something many gamers … [Read more...] about Intel Arc resurrects an old AMD and Nvidia feature | Digital Trends
