I love lots of information on my wrist. I love good, clean, interesting designs. Those two things don't always work well together. The Apple Watch Series 4, however, sometimes nails it really well, and it's a clear step up over the Apple Watch Series 3. But it's not always as big a leap as I expected. The Apple Watch S4 has been on my wrist for about a day so far. Much like has been the case with other smartwatches, I'm obsessed with the watch faces. You will be, too. Watch faces are what you'll stare at 90% of the time. It's the whole reason to wear a smartwatch.Read: Apple Watch Series 4 review in progressThe S4 has a bigger display that looks wonderful, and Apple has offered up some exclusive watch faces that make the most of its real estate. The rest of Apple's watch faces are there, too, and some have also gained advantages in design. Not all of them, though. I started reviewing the watch faces as a Twitter thread. Here are my thoughts so far. Now playing: Watch this: Apple … [Read more...] about Apple Watch Series 4’s new watch faces, reviewed: great start, but more, please

Coming as a surprise to no one who eagerly scanned the countless leaks, today Apple unveiled the fourth generation Apple Watch which sticks with the wearable’s square-faced, minimalist form factor, but improves how much info can be squeezed on that tiny display, and the watch’s health-tracking capabilities. The most enticing feature of the new Apple Watch (Apple appears to have abandoned the ‘Series’ naming scheme) is that OLED display which is now 18 percent larger to reduce the bezels and max out the wearable’s slightly larger (but also thinner) case size. The previous versions of the Apple Watch were all available in 38 and 42-millimeter options, but the new versions grow ever so slightly to 40 and 44-millimeters. Apple will immediately take advantage of all that extra screen real estate with a new watch face featuring up to eight complications, or widgets, including quick access to communicating with friends and family, that will all be accessible at a … [Read more...] about Apple Watch Series 4: Here’s Everything It Can Do

Apple Watch, Apple Watch Series 2, Apple Watch Series 3. The naming convention suits Apple's approach to its watch updates. They've felt like gradual iterations, not huge leaps. The basic design of the Apple Watch, and even most of its key functions, have remained largely the same, with speed and extra features added on over time: GPS, water resistance, cellular connections. That might change with the Apple Watch Series 4. A convincing image published by 9to5mac appears to be a leaked Apple marketing shot of the presumed Series 4, which is widely expected to be unveiled at Apple's big Sept. 12 event alongside rumored new iPhones. Apple didn't respond to CNET's request for comment on the image. But assuming it's the real deal, it shows a brand-new, improved and information-heavy watch face. It also appears to have a bigger edge-to-edge screen, as rumored. (It's a bit hard to tell without an older model in the shot for direct comparison.)If you're wondering what Apple's … [Read more...] about Apple Watch 4 wish list: These key changes could put it over the top
The new Samsung Galaxy Watch was unveiled alongside the Galaxy Note 9 back on August 9, and -- like the Note -- is available for sale as of today. We've only had the Watch for a bit more than 2 days, so we're not ready to render a final verdict yet. But we have plenty of impressions after our first 48 hours:First off, If you're interested in the Samsung Galaxy Watch, you'll have to decide what size to get. Having a small wrist, I initially thought I'd be a candidate for the smaller 42mm model, which comes in Midnight Black or Rose Gold and starts at $330 (£279) for the non-cellular editions (LTE models will ship later this year for $50 more). But after trying the silver-only 46mm version ($350, £299) at a launch event in New York City, I quickly realized I'd made a mistake, and immediately opted for the larger model. While it's a little heavier, it fit my wrist comfortably and has some clear benefits: Not only is its screen bigger but it has better battery life.
