See our complete coverage of CES 2023 here AMD is starting off its CES strong with the introduction of new 3D V-Cache Ryzen 7000 CPUs. Unlike the previous generation, AMD isn’t restricting its 3D V-Cache to just a midrange CPU, and is instead introducing three chips that match most of AMD’s current-gen lineup. AMD introduced the Ryzen 9 7950X3D, Ryzen 9 7900X3D, and Ryzen 7 7800X3D during its CES keynote today. The flagship chip, the Ryzen 9 7950X3D, tops out with 16 cores, a 5.7GHz boost clock speed, and 144MB of cache. AMD Posts Strong Results on Robust EPYC Sales As Consumer CPU Sales Disappoint
AMD published its financial results for the fourth quarter and full year of 2022. Due to strong demand for AMD's data center EPYC processors, the company posted an all-time record revenue for the full year. Meanwhile, sales of consumer CPUs and GPUs declined significantly in the fourth quarter, which clearly limited the company's growth in Q4. Record Year, Not-So-Record Quarter AMD's Q4 2022 revenue totaled $5.6 billion, up 16% year-over-year and flat with Q4 2022. Meanwhile, the company's net income collapsed to $21 million, 98% lower than in the same period a year ago. As for gross margin, it dropped to 43% from 50% in Q4 2021. As for the full year 2022, AMD earned $23.601 billion, up a whopping 44% from $16.434 billion in 2021. This was the highest yearly result that AMD has ever posted, yet it could have been higher if demand for consumer processors and graphics cards had been stronger in the third and fourth quarters. "2022 was a strong year for AMD as we … [Read more...] about AMD Posts Strong Results on Robust EPYC Sales As Consumer CPU Sales Disappoint
AMD Ryzen 5 7600X vs. Ryzen 5 7600: is cheaper better? | Digital Trends
AMD’s Ryzen 7000 CPUs haven’t had the best reception, but Team Red is correcting course. The new Ryzen 5 7600 is proof of that. It’s slightly slower than the Ryzen 5 7600X based on the spec sheet, but it’s around $70 cheaper, comes with a bundled cooler, and promises nearly identical performance. Contents Specs Pricing Performance Gaming AMD Ryzen 5 7600X vs. Ryzen 5 7600: Which should you buy? After testing the processor myself, I can confirm — the Ryzen 5 7600 is one of the best processors you can buy right now. With a couple of clicks, it can achieve identical performance as the Ryzen 5 7600X, and it comes in at a cheaper price. Specs Spec-for-spec, the Ryzen 5 7600X and Ryzen 5 7600 are almost identical. The biggest difference is clock speed, with the Ryzen 5 7600 having a much lower base clock speed, as well as a slightly lower boost clock speed. Otherwise, you’re getting the same six Zen 4 cores and 38MB of cache across both processors. … [Read more...] about AMD Ryzen 5 7600X vs. Ryzen 5 7600: is cheaper better? | Digital Trends
Intel Engaging in ‘Semi-Destructive’ Actions Against AMD, Says Firm
A leading Wall Street firm has downgraded AMD, saying that Intel had engaged destructive actions against its smaller rival in the desktop PC space to slowdown its market share expansion. These actions could eventually hurt Intel itself, but for now it can use its vast manufacturing capacity and ability to offer competitive pricing to outsell its competitor and prevent its penetration into lucrative high-end notebook space. "In recent months we have been growing more wary of potential PC dynamics, both given the market outlook as well as exacerbated by Intel's semi-destructive behavior as of late as they use both price and capacity as a strategic weapon, continuing to overship even amid broader breakdowns in the industry," Stacy Rasgon, an analyst with Bernstein Research, wrote in a note to clients, reports SeekingAlpha . "It seems to us that Intel has decided that if the channel is going to hold parts, it might as well be their parts." Around 53% of Intel's revenue came from … [Read more...] about Intel Engaging in ‘Semi-Destructive’ Actions Against AMD, Says Firm
Researchers Disclose Meltdown-like Vulnerability for AMD Processors (Updated)
Update, 8/31/2021 7:30am PT : Updated article and title to clarify that the vulnerability applies to all AMD processors, not just the Zen 2 and Zen+ models listed in the research paper. Original article: According to security researchers and AMD , the company's Zen 2 and Zen+ processors suffer from a new Meltdown-like vulnerability, but the problem appears to be far more wide-ranging. AMD has prepared a guide on mitigating the vulnerability and published details about how the vulnerability works, but the company's security bulletin also notes that all AMD CPUs are vulnerable. Called "Transient Execution of Non-canonical Accesses," this vulnerability acts very similarly to the already-disclosed Meltdown vulnerability that only impacts Intel CPUs. Saidgani Musaev and Christof Fetzer, researchers from Dresden Technology University, discovered the vulnerabilities in AMD Zen+ and Zen 2 processors. The researchers disclosed the CVE-2020-12965 vulnerability to AMD in … [Read more...] about Researchers Disclose Meltdown-like Vulnerability for AMD Processors (Updated)
