Mid-year report: Here are the best games of 2022 so far | Digital Trends

June 27, 2022 by www.digitaltrends.com

We’re already nearly halfway through 2022, and it’s been an unusual year when it comes to new video game releases. The first quarter of 2022 was loaded with massive hits that eclipsed 2021’s holiday season. Major releases slowed to a drip after March though, creating a front-loaded year for gamers. Even with a slower cadence, however, each month has brought some excellent new titles — some of which were easy to miss. Contents Elden Ring Horizon Forbidden West Kirby and the Forgotten Land Neon White Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge OlliOllli World The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe Nobody Saves the World Rogue Legacy 2 Strange Horticulture Other highlights Show 6 more items The midway point of any year serves as a good excuse to stop and take stock of what’s launched so far. You likely already know the biggest releases (such as the Radahn-sized elephant in the room), but there’s a whole sea of vibrant games worth … [Read more...] about Mid-year report: Here are the best games of 2022 so far | Digital Trends

New photos leave little doubt that the Sonos Ray is real | Digital Trends

May 5, 2022 by www.digitaltrends.com

Unfortunately for Sonos, the last few weeks have been a torrent of leaks surrounding one of the company’s as-yet-unreleased speakers. The most recent of these leaks — a series of publicity-quality photos — comes from Twitter account SnoopyTech , and they leave little doubt that Sonos will soon launch a soundbar that is a little smaller than the $449 Sonos Beam, and likely considerably more affordable. In April, reports emerged that Sonos is planning to release a new home theater soundbar that will be smaller and less expensive than its $399 Beam, according to a report from Chris Welch at The Verge . This was followed on May 4 by another report from Welch, citing internal documents and people familiar with the company’s plans, claiming that this new product will be called the Sonos Ray . Welch, who had claimed to have seen “genuine photos” of the new speaker, but did not indicate how he came across them, worked with artists at The Verge to create renders that purportedly … [Read more...] about New photos leave little doubt that the Sonos Ray is real | Digital Trends

6 ways Samsung can make cheap (and good) folding phones | Digital Trends

June 30, 2022 by www.digitaltrends.com

Earlier this week, news broke that Samsung is working on delivering sub-$800 foldables by 2024. The current-gen Galaxy Z Fold 3 starts at $1,799, while the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is selling for $999 — notable decreases compared to the $1,980 Galaxy Fold and $1,380 first-gen Z Flip. While the $999 price tag of the Flip 3 is credited for the boom in the popularity of foldables, it still requires a further decrease in price for mainstream users to fully embrace foldable technology. And Samsung knows this. Contents No external display on the Flip Remove the Fold’s under-display camera Scaled-back camera optics A midrange processor No wireless charging Lacking water resistance A lower price tag to build consumer trust Show 2 more items We now know that Samsung is reportedly working on cheaper foldables. But how might the company make and launch a foldable smartphone that costs less than $800? We have a few ideas on how that could happen. No … [Read more...] about 6 ways Samsung can make cheap (and good) folding phones | Digital Trends

Gartner Predicts a 9.5% PC Industry Decline for 2022

June 30, 2022 by www.tomshardware.com

Market research and analysis outfit Gartner has published a gloomy set of predictions about the fate of the PC industry in 2022. It headlines the report by highlighting an expected 9.5% decline in PC shipments globally by the end of the year. Like the downbeat predictions published by IDC three weeks ago, Gartner cites inflation, war and supply chain disruptions for the PC industry's misfortunes. Gartner provides some insight by breaking out PC shipment predictions by market segment, and geography. For example, Ranjit Atwal, a senior director analyst at Gartner, said that "Consumer PC demand is on pace to decline 13.1% in 2022 and will plummet much faster than business PC demand, which is expected to decline 7.2% year over year." In the report, we also find that the Europe, the Middle East and Africa region (EMEA) will see a record dip in consumer PC demand though 2022. The EMEA, with its proximity to Russia and Ukraine, has seen consumer confidence hit particularly hard, and … [Read more...] about Gartner Predicts a 9.5% PC Industry Decline for 2022
