Apple has finally announced the launch of the 16-inch MacBook Pro — after the longest and most convoluted series of rumors and leaks since the original iPhone. Starting at $2,399, the 16-inch MacBook Pro is available today through apple.com and the Apple Store app. The overhauled design comes with a brand-new keyboard, a higher resolution display, and a separate Touch ID button. And with a similar price tag to the MacBook Pro 15 it has now replaced, there are no nasty surprises in terms of cost. The device has been rumored for months, but as recently as the end of October it was thought that Apple had pushed it back to 2020. In the end that proved false. Also wide of the mark was a decent chunk of the laundry list of possible features and specs the rumor mill kitted the device out with; in the end, many of these failed to come to fruition. Still, for some Mac fans the news that the failure-prone butterfly keyboard has been replaced will be music to their ears. Apple had been … [Read more...] about Apple announces the 16-inch MacBook Pro with a brand-new keyboard

What is Mac Pro’s Afterburner card, and what does it do?
When Apple first announced that it was working on an all-new Mac Pro in 2017, it promised a high level of modularity that would allow you to customize the ultra-powerful machine to your needs. Then at WWDC 2019, it revealed that one of these modular elements was the Afterburner card, an add-on designed specifically for speeding up certain video-rendering tasks. But what exactly is the Afterburner card, and how does it work? And if you’re getting a Mac Pro, is it worth your money? What does the Afterburner card do? Apple describes the Afterburner as something that can “enhance Apple ProRes and ProRes RAW workflows for film and video professionals.” But what exactly does that mean? Simply put, if you’re working with ProRes and ProRes RAW codecs, much of the work can be offloaded to the Afterburner card. That means you can free up your other components — particularly the processor — for other work. In essence, its purpose is to eliminate “proxy … [Read more...] about What is Mac Pro’s Afterburner card, and what does it do?
LG C8 Series OLED TV review
LG C8 Series OLED TV Score Details DT Editors' Choice “LG’s C8 OLED is the best TV you can buy in 2018” Perfect black levels Excellent HDR support and performance Interface is a pleasure to use Stunningly thin profile Excellent out-of-box picture performance Can’t get as bright as some LCD TVs I predicted early this year that the LG C8 OLED would wind up being my pick for TV of the year. LG’s E8 series OLED was the first TV to hit my test bench in 2018, and since I expected the C8 series would deliver similar picture quality and user experience for less money, it felt like a safe bet. Now that I’ve had a chance to test the best of the best from Sony, Samsung, TCL, and Vizio, I’m pleased to officially report that the LG C8 series OLED is Digital Trends’ pick for best TV of the year – and likely for at least the first half of 2019, too. LG C8 series models While we … [Read more...] about LG C8 Series OLED TV review
Samsung Shape M7 review
Samsung Shape M7 Score Details “Samsung’s first effort at a wireless audio ecosystem is a respectable one, but it is not a Sonos killer.” Clear, clean highs Good bass response Adds some intuitive features to Sonos-style ecosystem Multiple ways to play Sound lacks refined definition Weak midrange Wireless system can be choppy A few weeks ago we evaluated the Sonos Play:1 speaker system, the latest and most cost-effective member of the Sonos family. True to Sonos’ form, The Play:1 provided a worthy audio performance on top of what we called “a unique and immersive wireless experience.” Of course, nothing stays unique in the tech world for long. It seems the folks at Samsung felt like giving Sonos a run for its money, because it has developed a wireless audio ecosystem that is eerily similar to Sonos’ design. … includes virtually every feature of Sonos’ clever ecosystem, while … [Read more...] about Samsung Shape M7 review
