Apple has finally announced the launch of the 16-inch MacBook Pro — after the longest and most convoluted series of rumors and leaks since the original iPhone. Starting at $2,399, the 16-inch MacBook Pro is available today through apple.com and the Apple Store app. The overhauled design comes with a brand-new keyboard, a higher resolution display, and a separate Touch ID button. And with a similar price tag to the MacBook Pro 15 it has now replaced, there are no nasty surprises in terms of cost. The device has been rumored for months, but as recently as the end of October it was thought that Apple had pushed it back to 2020. In the end that proved false. Also wide of the mark was a decent chunk of the laundry list of possible features and specs the rumor mill kitted the device out with; in the end, many of these failed to come to fruition. Still, for some Mac fans the news that the failure-prone butterfly keyboard has been replaced will be music to their ears. Apple had been … [Read more...] about Apple announces the 16-inch MacBook Pro with a brand-new keyboard

That’s rich: Apple VP knocks classroom Chromebooks for being cheap
In the last couple of years, Chromebooks have dominated over half of the K-12 education market compelling Apple and Microsoft to rethink their strategies. And for good reason — Chrome OS is relatively affordable and easier to understand and manage, making it ideal for both children and teachers. However, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, Phil Schiller thinks otherwise and considers Chromebooks as “cheap testing tools”. In an interview with CNET, Schiller spoke at length about the new 16-inch MacBook Pro’s keyboard and when asked for his take on Chromebooks’ growth in the education sector, explained why he believed Apple’s iPad and MacBooks are better suited for students. Schiller began by outlining Apple’s recent efforts to win classrooms again, and brought up a study the company conducted years ago to gather insights on “the importance and the role of technology in the classroom.” The outcome, he said, was … [Read more...] about That’s rich: Apple VP knocks classroom Chromebooks for being cheap
Apple’s working on a way to not charge you more for its redesigned, 2020 5G iPhone
Adding 5G to a smartphone at the moment seems to mean an increase in the price; but this may not happen when Apple launches the first 5G iPhone next year. At least, that’s according to a prediction made by well-respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has said that while the new components will cost Apple more, the company will make savings elsewhere to ensure the higher price is not passed on to you. Kuo says the additional 5G components will add between $30 and $100 to the cost of producing the iPhone for Apple. Through some renegotiation and adjustments to the way it currently pays its partners, Apple may be able to reduce costs elsewhere, and absorb the extra from 5G. What will this mean for the price of the 2020 5G iPhone? If prices for a 5G iPhone stay approximately the same as the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max, then the cheapest model may cost $1,000, and the most expensive at around $1,450. For comparison, today you can buy the 256GB Samsung Galaxy S10 5G for … [Read more...] about Apple’s working on a way to not charge you more for its redesigned, 2020 5G iPhone
