Epic Game Store is countering review bombs with a new system | Digital Trends
People review-bombing games even before they’re released is a common problem on sites like Metacritic. To combat this, Epic Games announced that it’s come out with a new user rating system on the Epic Games Store that should address the issues. The Fortnite maker said on Friday it updated its digital gaming storefront with the user rating system to ensure its games receive direct feedback from the community as they’re playing them. It works like this: Epic will randomly ask players to score a game on a five-star scale after playing a game for more than two hours. Their scores will be calculated into the game’s overall score, which will appear on the game’s Epic Games Store page to help other gamers determine whether or not it’s worth playing. Epic says that the randomization process prevents spamming, and it won’t ask players to rate every single game they play. It also wants to make sure that people assigning the scores are actual players instead of bots or people who are … [Read more...] about Epic Game Store is countering review bombs with a new system | Digital Trends
Get ready to play Steam games on your AR glasses | Digital Trends
Nreal, an augmented reality company based in China, has announced it is launching a Steam beta on its Nreal Light and Nreal Air AR glasses, the latter of which released last September. Dubbed Steam on Nreal, the beta will give users a chance to stream their favorite games from their PC to the AR glasses. Nreal says in a press release that the beta will be released toward the end of June, but admits that it will be finicky. Nreal is the first company to bring PC games onto AR glasses to date, let alone Steam games , so setting it up requires arduous effort and Steam on Nreal is also not optimized for all Steam games. However, it said that the beta is compatible with DiRT Rally and the entire Halo series . “We’re excited to be the first to bring Steam into AR,” Nreal co-founder Peng Jin said. “The beta release is meant to give people a glimpse into what is possible. After all, AAA games should be played on 200-inch HD screen and they should be played free of location … [Read more...] about Get ready to play Steam games on your AR glasses | Digital Trends
Final Fantasy XVI may be first M-rated mainline game | Digital Trends
Final Fantasy XVI may be the first entry in the mainline Final Fantasy series to get a Mature rating from the Entertainment Software Rating Board. At least, that’s what series producer Naoki Yoshida (aka Yoshi-P) is aiming for. In an interview with GameSpot , Yoshida responded to the question about the implied nudity in the trailer shown during Sony’s recent State of Play showcase . He noted that Square Enix is not trying to secure an M-rating for the sake of making Final Fantasy XVI more violent or explicit than previous entries, but rather he deems the game getting a higher age rating as necessary to be able to weave mature themes into the story. Although he acknowledged game ratings are in place to protect younger gamers from age-inappropriate material, he lamented that those ratings are becoming too restrictive with what can or can’t be shown on screen. “You find yourself changing things that you wanted to do in the game based on that rating,” Yoshida said. “You wanted … [Read more...] about Final Fantasy XVI may be first M-rated mainline game | Digital Trends
