How to find the cheapest deals
Follow our tips and tricks to cut the costs of your shopping:
- Find the cheapest online prices: Google Shopping is a good tool for finding the cheapest price – it searches a wide range of retailers of various sizes
- Abandon online shopping baskets: Don’t go straight to check-out after putting the items in your basket – it may tease retailers into giving you discount codes
- Ask a site to negotiate a fee for you: If you’re struggling to find a deal, Flubit is a free site that aims to negotiate discounts for you
- Sign up to retailers’ newsletters for big discounts: It sometimes means a percentage discount code, or a straight discount off your first shop
- Check when stores discount groceries: Check with your local store when they discount food items that are about to expire – this is the perfect time to nab bargains
The best of the rest
Cheap slow cookers at Aldi
Aldi has launched a chalkboard slow cooker that lets you write messages onto the gadget for £20.
This compares to £24.96 for a Russell Hobbs device at Asda and Amazon.
Prosecco for your furry friends
Aldi again! This time it has brought back its pet-friendly Prosecco and beer for £1.99 – the cheapest price of any supermarket.
The non-alcoholic tipples for cats and dogs are on sale for £2.69 at Waitrose, or at Morrisons, where they’re £2.50.
Earn money through cashback websites
ANOTHER great way to save money when you shop is through cashback – you can earn several hundred pounds a year depending on what you buy.
Cashback websites like Quidco and TopCashback pay you to shop through them.
To use it, you’ll have to sign up to a cashback website, and then simply log in and search for the online retailer you want to buy from.
If you buy something, an amount is put into your cashback site account once the transaction has been processed.
You can withdraw this once it arrives, but keep in mind that this can take a few weeks and sometimes even months.
For some cashback sites, you need to reach a set threshold before you can withdraw, and the expected cashback isn’t always guaranteed.
So it’s important that you look for the best deal – and not just the biggest cashback – but if you’re going to use a certain company, then it’s worth checking if there’s any cashback offers.
Get up to £100 cashback on insurance
TopCashback gives customers up to £100 in cashback if you sign a life insurance with MORE TH>N, or £45 if you sign a van insurance.
If you’re looking to go on a longer holiday, the cashback website offers £20.45 in cashback if you sign up for Virgin Money’s annual black trip black cover travel insurance, which covers you if your trip is longer than 60 days.
If you’re going on a shorter holiday, the single trip cover and backpacker cover will give you £9 and £17.27 in cashback respectively.
