UK unveils the Lutz pod, its first driverless car

The UK has joined the driverless car scene and released the LUTZ Pathfinder. The Lutz Pathfinder prototype pod is a new driverless vehicle created by RDM group. Unlike other driverless vehicles that are being tested on the roads, the Lutz was designed to work on pavements and pedestrian-friendly zones. RDM unveiled their driverless pod on the same day the British government officially gave permission for driverless vehicles to be tested on public roads. The pod is capable of seating two people with small luggage and it can travel up to 40 miles with a top speed limit of 15mph. The pod can last about eight hours with one charge. The Oxford University’s Mobile Robotics Group equipped the Lutz with 19 sensors-panoramic cameras, radars and laser imaging-that are used to build a virtual image of the world around it and help guide it.
